The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust includes three main hospital sites in Lancaster, Kendal and Furness and two other hospital centres in Morecambe and Ulverston.
With a population of more than 365,000 people in the communities it serves and a team of more than 5,600 employees, the Trust has worked with Space Creative since 2013 for design, digital and marketing services to help raise the profile of its work, improve transparency through effective internal and external communications and improve its image as an NHS employer.
Following an investigation in 2013 (which placed the Trust in special measures) and all the associated negative media coverage, Space Creative was initially appointed to create a new website for the Trust and subsequently to help re-build the image and reputation of the Trust through cohesive and effective communication tools.
We began by working closely with the Trust’s board and Communications Team to create a new ‘Fresh Thinking’ website; a patient-friendly version of their annual report and accounts; and some designs and graphics for internal communications activity which has, over time, evolved to include patient, visitor and staff communications materials.
Within a month of the “Fresh Thinking” website going live, visitor numbers were up 40%. Since then, our relationship with the Trust has gone from strength to strength and we’re now providing regular design and artwork services to wards for specific campaigns as well as for ongoing communications and recruitment event activities.
